I was very saddened to learn of the unfortunate loss of one of the most exciting and thought-provoking artists of our time, Hans 'Ruedi' Giger, who died following injuries sustained in a fall.
He constantly pushed the boundaries in art, his dark and macabre imagery instantly recognizable, as he continued to explore the gritty and often perverse side of the human psyche. The worlds he created seemed to form a paradox; the subject matter could seem so repulsive, in some cases completely immoral, however the technique he employed almost forces you to investigate further, inviting the viewer to travel deeper into his nightmarish landscapes.
Over six years ago, I made a homage to Giger with an artwork based on one of his images entitled 'Samurai'
Then about a year or so ago, I began another pastiche of the same image, this time trying to remain more faithful to the original, without simply trying to copy it.
This is the work in progress, which remains incomplete, although now I am committed to finishing it, and hopefully soon will be able to offer it as a second homage to this great artist.
