Description

So after checking my emails this morning, I noticed this photo taken at Jökulsárgljúfur national park [link] and thought it would be nice to use as reference for some painting practice.
I used a slightly customised oil brush for 95% of the painting.
About 2.5 hours, Photoshop.
Hope you like it. :)

This is a great piece. The water is painted fabulously and it brings a dynamic into the piece. The colours are great for the grass, and in the foreground the detail is astonishing.
I think perhaps taking a lower angle (more horizontal) may have captured the scene better, and the inclusion of sky may have helped the lighting. The orange grass near the water fall seems to be a line drawn across, maybe by breaking it into clumps it would give it a natural sense, and improve the detail.
I find the scene exciting and well painted, the landscape itself is detailed and the framing of the piece is cleverly done. I find the waterfall is the most detailed part of the painting, and is very well done. It looks almost like a photo, and the spray brings it to life.
