Uncertain Future by GrungeTV Uncertain Future by GrungeTV
Getting back into sketching/painting again slightly.

A post-apocalyptic environment where pockets of civilisation have survived the aftermath, and in some cases are rebuilding/upgrading their immediate surroundings.

I've been inspired by the technique of ~R-A-I-N-A-R-T aka Sebastien Larroude, and in particular his piece 'neo pala' which you will see I've borrowed heavily from.

Photoshop: 2-3 hrs.

Sweat stung Melvyn's eyes. From the darkness of the Badlands he examined the brightly-lit buildings with furious intensity. His twisted, stinking, mutated body ached - part exhaustion, part malformation caused by the radioactivity. His jealousy burnt like an A-bomb detonation within his black heart.

They would probably be drinking coffee and smoking big cigars in the new towers.

He pulled back into the shadows as a scout-ship raced fast and low, fore-guns glowing from recent use. Washing away the last dirt from the desert...

Thanks a lot Mark. Although I've never been to Sheffield before, this could be anywhere in the United Raindom Kingdom!! ;)

THe use of lighting and shade/colour scheme gives the mood of uncertainty very evidently.

By background data, I assume you refer to the process for this image!
I used a photograph I took in the countryside, darkened it down, then painted over the top, following the style of ~R-A-I-N-A-R-T
Hope this answers your question!

mmmmmmmmm maybe you should change the fumes that are coming from the ship don't change the place just the "cloud" ....

Do you mean the shape of the fumes or the colour, or both?

:iconsurehuinel:

The shape is fine and the color the direction messes with the focus if it was placed just from the left to right i think it'll fix it

I absolutely adore this. Your painting technique is absolutely fantastic and the design/vision is just suberb. The atmosphere is thick with depression but also has a spark of adventure - I love it!

Very different for you mate, confident use of white space too. Even though you cite your inspiration, I find this piece very *torvenius flavoured :)

This is pretty cool, very atmospheric. My only thought is that the ship in flight seems to be a little too clearly focused relative to the density of the air - it messes with the sense of depth.

Hmmm... the ship is somewhere between the very near foreground and the large buildings to the right (near middle foreground), so I perceive it to be focused correctly. If the ship was huge, I would have it obscured slightly with haze/clouds, but then not everybody will see it the same!
Apart from that, glad you like it Steve!

Ah, Ok, I was wrapping the vapor trail around the large building in the foreground and placing the ship somewhere just on the other side, which is what's throwing me off. No worries, all good!
