Description

A colossal battleship, 'Tarasque', is launched from a secret location on the island of Olestrii on the planet Tanmaugh. Five years under construction, it is now ready to leave the atmosphere and engage in part of a huge orbital defence system, comprised of a further six similar battleships.

Weighing in at just under 120,000 tonnes, it requires several 'tugs' to help raise the Tarasque through the atmosphere and into a safe orbital distance. The tugs create anti-grav fields and employ repel beams to assist in the launch which will take about seven hours to complete.

Several accompanying WaspWing fighter craft keep an eye out for any early signs of hostility.

War. Throughout the history of mankind and through our various conflicts amongst ourselves, no matter what the new military hardware might be or where and when the fight will take place, one thing is certain. War never changes. Sometimes we fight for something that we believe in, others would fight in order to cause the destruction of a potential enemies. As much as don't want to admit it, or believe it, combat is a part of our society and has been around even longer than we would care to remember. During most conflicts the best course of action is a strong and viable defense that can be easily controlled as well as highly durable during any hostile activity, be it local or alien. The Guardians of Tanmaugh, created by the very versatile 3D abstract/fractal artist *GrungeTV, allows us to see his own personal depiction of a civilization as it prepares itself for the unrelenting destruction and the turmoil of intergalactic combat.

One's immediate glance at this image shows that this is more than just a simple fractal image. The various curvatures and markings within each and every flame shows us the impression that it looks less like a fractal design and more like a render of an actual space defense system. The textures of the renders perfectly simulate local plant life upon the massive constructs, which gives off the impression that the structure has an almost techno-organic motif to it, instantly making appear more than just a simple mechanism. The mist and simulated noise really add to the illusion that the viewer is floating above a massive space defensive grid that is looming countless miles above a planet. The clouds cruising gently about the area, giving the location an almost peaceful and serene appearance. The winds wisp about the area, the breeze strokes across your face. You can almost picture others working on the machine, a tense look of desperation and subtle fear of what terrible events could occur should the system fail. Yes the atmosphere around both the story behind the picture and the picture itself are quite thick here.

However, there are few things that could be done in order to fix some of the issues with this piece. Some parts of the image appear a bit too grainy and clash with the other elements of the piece. Also, try blurring over some of the more distant pieces of the image which would give off a great illusion of depth-of-field and make the whole construct seem larger by scale.

With these shortcomings, there is still a lot to like about this piece. The various elements of the design are just as good to look as the many other pieces made by this artist and the atmosphere is still quite good. All in all a nice piece of artwork. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c…" width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>
