Basic building in C4D, then painted details with Photoshop. Including modelling and render time, about 3.5 hours. If you had more time, would you tweak the sand piled up against it? Take out the brush strokes?
Don't mess with the sky though, it's killer already.

Not sure about stars (as the dark part of sky is cloud), but I hear ya with the atmospheric perspective advice!

I'll certainly tweak the pile up of sand and make it a tad smoother. Going to add aerial/atmospheric perspective too, to set it off from the background more!

i don't really like the "sand" or the color of the sand and maybe a little sky retouching
